Cool New Service - Push-to-Voicemail

For a few brief hours today, if you were looking for the latest in news, Fox News was delivering it - straight to your voicemail. In what apparently was a sneak peak at a cool new service they're launching, the Fox News Radio site today promoted a new push-to-voicemail service for their radio news updates.

How it works is simple. You text a word to a shortcode and within minutes you'll receive a short broadcast of the latest breaking news straight to your voicemail. I tried it out and within a few minutes a 1 minute Fox Radio News update was delivered directly to my voicemail, without ringing my phone. Very slick. Even though it's no longer up on their site, the service still works (I just tried it and got a different news update than the one from before).

While I think this is exciting, it's just the tip of the iceberg. Just think where this could be headed. News. Sports. Traffic. Weather. Business. The possibilities are endless. Leaving work and want to know if there's an accident on the highway? Send a text and instantly get the update. I think scheduled delivery could be even more alluring. Could this be the start of an entirely new business model for podcasts and content creators?

To try it out, text "FOXRADIO" to the number "41411."

Check it out and let us know what you think.
