So we finally got a glimpse of the much-ballyhooed Google phone -- which is not an actual phone, but an open software platform that other companies can use to build cool new mobile phones and that programmers can use to create cool new Internet applications. Sounds great, until you realize that it means nothing unless big cell phone carriers like Verizon Wireless and AT&T relax their iron grip.
